About Our School
Foreign Language Academic Immersion Magnet is a public magnet school in Baton Rouge dedicated to a simple but powerful idea: children learn languages best when they're used as the medium of instruction, not just the subject.
From kindergarten through fifth grade, students in our immersion program receive core academic instruction in their chosen language. Math, science, reading, and social studies are all taught through the target language, so fluency develops naturally alongside strong academic skills.

Language Programs
Families choose the language program at enrollment. Each program follows the same immersion model — academic content is delivered entirely in the target language, adapted to the child's developmental level.
Mandarin Chinese immersion opens doors to the world's most spoken language and one of the fastest-growing economies.
French immersion prepares students for a global future — spoken by over 300 million people across five continents.
German immersion cultivates precision and critical thinking — a language of science, engineering, and innovation.
Spanish immersion connects students to the second-most-spoken native language worldwide and a vital community in Louisiana.
How It Works
Our program is designed to build language proficiency gradually, ensuring every student develops confidence and competence at their own pace.
Young learners absorb language naturally. In kindergarten and first grade, instruction is mostly in the target language through songs, stories, play, and visual supports. Students build listening and speaking skills before formal reading.
By third and fourth grade, students are reading and writing in their immersion language. Academic content becomes more complex, and students begin to think and reason in the new language alongside their peers.
By fifth grade, students are functioning at or near grade level in both their immersion language and English. They graduate with strong academic skills and a functional second language — a genuine advantage for middle school and beyond.
Our Community
Parents and students share what makes our immersion community special.
"My daughter started French immersion in kindergarten with zero exposure to the language. By third grade, she was reading chapter books in French and teaching us words at home. The teachers made her feel capable and confident from day one."
Parent of 3rd Grade Student
French Immersion Program
"We were worried about the transition since we don't speak Spanish at home. Our son adapted faster than we expected. The school communicates clearly with parents, and watching him gain confidence in a new language has been incredible."
Parent of 5th Grade Student
Spanish Immersion Program
"As a teacher myself, I was impressed by how the immersion model supports both language acquisition and content mastery. My children are not only learning a second language — they're thinking differently because of it."
